The work of UK-born and based producer Ross Tones, best known as Throwing Snow, is one of deadly precision and poisonous charm. Cultivating a self-disciplined tension between intricate layering, dubbed-out textures and a Bristolian-impregnated bassy stomp, Tone’s expressionistic electronics found the ideal ground for development in Fabric’s artist-led subdivision Houndstooth – as he became one of the label’s most productive contributors with no less than two full-lengths and six 12″s over the past half-decade. ‘Myriad/Minotaurs‘ is his seventh EP for the London outlet.
Combining the whole pack of ingredients that made his name, Tones’ latest club-ready single will plunge your brain into a state of dazed stasis but set your feet in dancing motion forthwith. Our pick, the shape-shifting ‘Minotaurs‘, starts off as a pure Tectonic-style dubstep affair but slowly pivots into further cosmo-telluric energetic rhythms and lushly pad-glazed ambient terrains with almost mythical force. Throwing Snow’s classic fusion of heavy Brizzle churn, brittle harmonics and emotive buildups at its finest. Tune in and zone out, this one’s gonna get you into orbit for a while.
