Flying Lotus & Declaime: Whole Wide World/Lit Up

Released in February 2009 on RAMP recordings, exceptional producer Flying Lotus (Steven Ellison) has teamed up with talented emcee Declaime (Dudley Perkins) on this astounding 5 track 12″ Vinyl, with Pattie Blingh (Georgia Anne Muldrow) on vocal assistance.

Three brilliant new tracks “Whole Wide World”, “Keep it Moving” and “Lit Up” are beautiful instrumentals. “Whole Wide World” and “Lit up” have both an instrumental and original working, perfect to alter the feel of the tracks, whilst keeping a chilled, funky beat going throughout. The original versions were released on Declaime’s album ‘Astromsacomin’ (2008). The Whole Wide World sample has a beautifully classic and romantic French feel to it as though you should be dancing under a starry moonlit sky while you listen.

Declaime’s dark, twisted and raspy vocals contrast beautifully with the sweet summer sounds of Pattie Blingh’s soulful singing in Whole Wide World. The EP in it’s entirety has a smooth and subtle progression, once again Flying Lotus’ production cannot be faulted.

Flying Lotus’ production breaks the boundaries between genre’s and this EP is no exception, somewhere between Broken Beat, Abstract, Neo Soul, Hip Hop Instrumental, Experimental and Downtempo. Basically beautiful beats combined with melodies to make you melt. This trio of talent is certainly a combination of musical genius which is not to be missed.
