George Fitzgerald: Don’t You/SCB Edit

Coming up next on the Hot Flush Two imprint, an obvious sister label for the Hot Flush Recordings camp, is a single and re-fix by George Fitzgerald and Scuba. Fitzgerald debuted on the the label during the summer with a 2 track EP entitled ‘The Let Down‘ & ‘Weakness‘. His styles employ subtle ambient textures that break down into warm rolling rhythms that span the styles of 2 – step, House, Techno and beyond.

The A side, ‘Don’t You’ screams a heavy old school garage vibe. The production is spacious and precise, using more house samples and soundscapes than you would relate to a classic 2 – step track. These sounds and plink / plonk percussion’s are what make this different from your standard garage tune and prove a refreshing change.

SCB’s re-edit on the B-side manifests itself as a steady techno beat, as expected under this moniker. The 4 x 4 element remains from start to finish, but by keeping his drum palate nicely EQ’d does not get tiresome.  Dropping the melody and vox down a couple of octaves helps take this to the underground, while other textures move effortlessly around the beat.

London based George Fitzgerald seems one to watch, and with backing from Hot Flush as well as inclusion on the SUB:STANCE mix compilation released on Ostgut Ton earlier this year, I am sure we can expect to hear more from him in 2011.
