Today, Samuel Van Dijk’s releases his fifth studio album as VC-118A on Delsin presenting a 10-track masterclass of glitched out electronics and downtempo experimental dub techno.
Samuel Van Dijk, has, in each of his different guises (VC-118A / Multicast Dynamics / Mohlao) proved to be a stable and solid artist, excelling in a unique take and identifiable sound across techno, electro and ambient – showcased on labels including Astral Industries, Frustrated Funk, Tabernacle Records and Hypnus.
On his fifth album, van Dijk employs “his evolved electro practice to explore the notion of change – a universal constant which keeps us barrelling towards unknown futures.” Crooked machine rhythms remain the driving force behind VC-118A, but it’s the treatment of the drums and the richly developed layers around them which tell the story.
Mastered by Neel, ‘Waves of Change‘ is housed in minimalistic artwork designed by Erris Huigens, Tijl Schneider and Sander Sturing – offering a simple and satisfying nod towards the austere black, red and white colour palette used in Russian Constructivism.
Spanning 10-tracks, ‘Waves of Change‘ explores textural abstract electronics, flittering between subdued breaks and hazy atmospheric techno. Our pick from the album is ‘Replace Image‘ – deploying a deep dub bass line alongside squelching aerial electronics and artificial intelligence sonics. One for the 4am crew.
‘Waves of Change’ is scheduled for release on 22nd September via Delsin. Order a vinyl copy from Inverted Audio Store and digital from Bandcamp.
