For their second release and debut 12″ record – following the excellent LL.M. 001 tape, Münster-based imprint LL.M. return with a four-track split, courtesy of Berlin producer Annanan and Manchester pair Space Afrika.
Framing Annanan’s ruffian techno-breaker ‘Willis‘ into an altered black-and-white scenario, Fabian Maahs’ video goes well past the basic illustration.
Somewhere between Buñuel’s Un Chien Andalou (NSFW) and Cunningham’s Rubber Johnny, Maahs delivers a compelling vision of the human body as subjected to musical forces through fragmentary perspectives: a dislocated torso furling and unwinding along bruising kicks, faces dissolving between multiple light-masks and tree-leaves projections pulsing like radio waves while fleshly shapes keep distorting under magnifying glass views.
Be sure to check Fabian Maahs’ video for Annanan’s first extract off LL.M. 002 ‘Anne‘. Both videos are part of his bachelor thesis in media design at the University of Applied Sciences in Münster.
LL.M. 002 is released via LL.M. on October 20th, pre-order a vinyl copy from Noorden.
