Appearances can be deceptive, and you’ll most certainly find it to be the case with DJ これからの緊急災害. With the change of alphabet came a radical shift in focus for Argentinian-born, Barcelona-based producer Julian Belen. If you’re into deep, dub techno, there’s little chances you haven’t come across his music before.
Within a decade of intense studio activity, Julian has multiplied angles of entry into his diversely hued musical streams – be it as Julixo, AWDHA or Alchemyst, quickly earning him sustained support from techno top dogs, including Marcel Dettmann, FJAAK, Ben Klock, Rødhåd, Dave Clarke, Pfirter and a whole lot more.
Inaugurating his cryptic new DJ これからの緊急災害 moniker with a much awaited debut tape for Barcelona’s Planetaria Soundsystem, Julian treats us to a drastic change of pace and style, which you can get a glimpse of with today’s premiere of ‘K-Hole with Fergie‘, a bonus cut coming with a vividly-coloured, fun-loving video.
Portraying the quirks and flaws of the self-absorbed internet era through tirelessly inventive collages of goofy memes, nonsensical humour and mass consumption tropes lifted from a near-dystopian glossy nightmare of sorts – with its deluge of “as-seen-on-TV” sloganeering and eye-pleasing pastel shades, this one takes a (satisfying) shot at the system. Beware, some highly addictive stuff right here.
Video directed by Juan Cruz Larrosa.
Retro Desire EP is released via Planetaria Soundsystem on 26th August, pre-order a copy from Bandcamp.
