Next in line on Brooklyn-based imprint Beats In Space we’re happy to find Rotterdam-based duo Antenna aka Sasha Renkas and Eline Makker, affiliate of local outsider-techno imprint Pinkman – for which he also does the artwork, and mother ship Clone Records’ acclaimed Royal Oak series.
Renkas and Makker’s debut slice for Tim Sweeney’s label, ‘Primavera‘, is presented as a “meditation on the sensitivity of spring” and certainly finds in the transitory season a fine echo to Antenna’s protean ravey reveries. Actually crafted in the wake of an uplifting experience in the mountainous scapes of the Austrian countryside, the four-tracker pays a compelling homage to nature and its spellbinding attributes.
As an appetiser, the label shared the video for ‘Primavera May‘ – the EP’s lead single, directed by Serena Forghieri. Made up of video glitches re-arranged in scrolling mosaics of pixelated colors then superimposed over actual paintings, the pastel imagery suits the pair’s melancholic yet resilient elixir of vaporous house perfectly: “Everything is dancing / everything is crying / it can feel so heavy / before it has begun”.
Each 12″ on Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. For Primavera, New York artist Jesse Moretti positions uniform obelisks across a melted pastel field to replicate the woozy rhythms of this EP. Constructed by WWFG, direct mail order copies of the 12” features a removable vinyl BIS logo cling.
Primavera will be released September 9th, 2016 on Beats In Space as a limited edition 12” and across digital formats. Physical purchase includes a free, high-quality, multi-format download. Order a copy from Juno.
