A new label and a new alias from a familiar name. Hashman Deejay — Vancouver producer Tanner Matt, whose releases across Pacific Rhythm, Future Times and MIDI_bug have established him as one of the more idiosyncratic figures working in this territory — launches So3ar with material recorded under the NeWRoomfreaK alias.
NeWRoomfreaK makes that sensibility plain from the outset. Five tracks recorded on old samplers, characterised by the frantic, button-mashed energy of someone operating outside any concern for finish or polish — techno, breaks and rave assembled by instinct rather than convention.
The A-side opens with oddball ambient signal Freeze! before moving into the wide, untethered sprawl of Newroomfreak [Wide] and the trip-hop low-end of New Room Bass, each track carrying the loose electricity of machine music made at the edges. The flip continues in kind: 40z and New Out sustain the same unhinged register without apology, the record maintaining a consistent internal logic precisely because it refuses to resolve into any single genre.
NeWRoomfreaK is scheduled for release on 13th July via So3ar. Preview and Pre-order a vinyl copy from Inverted Audio Record Store.
