Hot on the heels of his first release on his very own Craft Services, 11:68PM returns with a five track EP that, rather than representing a progression from CRAFT001, demonstrates the tools and influences from which the preceding EP was developed. A little more stripped back and raw, CRAFT002 is a collection of functional sounds for blending on the dancefloor, but with enough attention to detail for them to stand on their own two feet – especially on a soundsystem that boasts a little heft.
Make Me opens proceedings and encapsulates this concept immediately. The track starts with swinging little synth chords trailing colourful reverb, before a simple breakbeat and clear, precise kick forcibly imposes a steady, swinging rhythm. After a kickless break, the percs drop back in with a skipping, almost UKG type of rhythm, along with deep, dubby subs rather than that rolling bass you’d expect from the aforementioned style. It’s a minimal little house groover, with plenty of meat on the bones to get stuck into.
CS002 is scheduled for release on July 3rd via Craft Services. Buy vinyl from Inverted Audio Record Store and digital from Bandcamp.
