After a period of hibernation, our sister mix series returns with an invigorating episode – as Newtype Rhythms launches in 2023 with a luminous live set courtesy of special guest, Lila Tirando a Violeta.
The Amsterdam-via-Montevideo talent is an evocative and exuberant adventurer within the wired conundrum that is the electronic music sphere. Unafraid to traverse deep within her personal experiences in addition to her vast breadth of influences, Violeta brandishes an undulating presence through her music that cuts through the monotony that could skew a club space, and directs all of themselves onto listeners; laying bare every piece of herself through tact and technicality.
Between her two impressive LPs released on N.A.A.F.I as well as a recent appearance on the burgeoning TraTraTrax label (courtesy of their impeccable compilation entitled “no pare, sigue sigue“) – Violeta’s future is brighter than ever. Thankfully, in the midst of her meteoric rise to heights unseen as of yet, she decided to contribute to this year’s launch edition of Newtype Rhythms with an unforgettable live set.
Seriously, there is not a moment to miss here; the sheer intensity and emotional sway is enough to keep you locked in for repeat listens. Violeta’s amazing live set starts at 48 minutes in, with resident Sheepshead warming things up with a more textural opening selection to begin the year.
