Following the release of her lauded album on Hyperdub in 2021, Loraine James once again strikes an unparalleled chord by signing to Ghostly International to launch her ambient-minded project and release her debut album as Whatever The Weather.
The North London producer has hurtled up the hierarchy of vital electronic music ever since her first album dropped in 2019, she’s now carving a new path with Ghostly – exploring music shaped from years of inspiration from ambient-adjacent producers, such as Telefon Tel Aviv (who mastered the album), HTRK (Jonnine Standish features on ‘Nothing‘), and Lusine (who she remixed in 2021).
Spanning 11 tracks, ‘Whatever The Weather‘ navigates through introspective ambiance, experimental electronics and IDM inspired beats and breaks to deliver a profusely inspiring and atmospheric album.
James describes her jam-based approach for the sessions as “free-flowing, stopping when I felt like I was done,” allowing her subconscious to lead. The improvisations have an intrinsic fluidity to them, akin to sudden weather events passing over a single environment — the location feels fixed while the conditions vary.
‘Whatever The Weather’ is scheduled for release 23 March via Ghostly International. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
