Mark Hawkins’ house project Marquis Hawkes sees a follow up to 2016’s acclaimed ‘Social Housing‘ album with ‘The Marquis Of Hawkes‘. The announcement of the album comes with a choice big room issuing in the form of ‘We Should Be Free‘ – collaborating with soul mainstay Jamie Lidell – which follows the already released ‘Don’t U‘, which featured the enduring vocals of Ursula Rucker.
While ‘Social Housing‘ focused on straight up house beats, ‘The Marquis Of Hawkes‘ spreads its roots further throughout the club world. Ambient, soul and dub influences find themselves interweaving with the expected jack of Chicago and smooth New Jersey vibes. As with ‘Don’t U‘, the single version of ‘We Should Be Free‘ sees Hawkins slice the cut in a variety of fashions in order to view the track through a different club orientated lens.
We Should Be Free is released via Houndstooth on 20th July (pre-order here), with The Marquis Of Hawkes following on 24th August (pre-order here).
