Phillip Sollmann & Konrad Sprenger ‘Modular Organ System’ take centre stage at CTM 2022

The 23rd edition of CTM Festival kicks off today in Berlin, bringing an abundance of innovative art exhibitions, installations and online discourses to the German capital.

Taking place between 19 January – 6 February, CTM 2022 Part 1 focuses on exhibitions, with participating artists focussed on the theme ‘Contact‘, in response to the lack of human contact during the global pandemic. CTM 2022 Part 2 will take place 24 May – 29 May and will focus on the dance floor.

One of our highlights from Part 1 is ‘Modular Organ System‘ – hand built in 2017 by Phillip Sollmann and Konrad Sprenger, it is a one of a kind performative sound installation that oscillates between sculpture, performance, and active listening in space – resulting in a unique and continuously morphing sonic terrain.

Using established and novel construction methods as well as traditional and unconventional materials such as ceramic, wood, and plastic, the system was created through collaborations between visual artists, organ builders, technologists and artisans. Sollmann and Sprenger also collaborated with the visual artist Nico Ihlein who created ceramic and paper-maché pipe objects.

Running over 10 days in the sonorous halls of the silent green Betonhalle, ‘Modular Organ System‘ features day-long interventions by a range of artists including; Arnold Dreyblatt, Ellen Arkbro, Kali Malone & Stephen O’Malley, Will Guthrie, and the newly formed microtonal brass ensemble Brass Abacus consisting of Robin Hayward, M.O. Abbott, and Henrik Nørstebø.
