Following his fourth album ‘Loss‘ in 2022, Tokyo-based producer and Diskotopia label co-founder Matt Lyne lines up his fifth solo album as A Taut Line consisting of 12 sonic ranging signatures, effortlessly voyaging through beat laden downtempo, trip-hop, IDM, bass, balearic rifts and sultry deep house.
Set for release next month, ‘Never Any Gain‘ compresses a multitude of genre into a single body of work. Each track exploring an eclectic sound aesthetic and quite rightly stand up in their own right. The album also features emotive vocals from Chocola B – injecting a sizeable Massive Attack vibe.
Being a huge admirer of the deep house sound, my pick from the album is ‘Neutral Buoyancy‘ – emanating potent DJ Sprinkles vibes – thanks to the piano work – the beat is fast, yet has that unquestionable nostalgic feel – an end of summer aura perhaps – transporting you poolside, watching a blood orange sun sink beneath the ocean for one last time.
