Last month, we premiered DJ Panthr’s “My World” lifted from the producers ‘Jade District’ LP. If that wasn’t enough, Hunter P. Thompson has another vinyl release from his alternative alias, Akasha System.
‘Phytopia’ is the full-length follow-up to 2020’s ‘Geomind’, after spending the past few years releasing one-off digital singles and EPs. In contrast to the sci-fi techno of DJ Panthr, Akasha System indulges in a shimmering, playful electronica equally inspired by the old growth forests of the Pacific Northwest as it is by the DIY dance culture in which Thompson operates.
California-based label 100% Silk has released several vinyl and cassette projects from Akasha System, including his 2019 opus, ‘Echo Earth’. In addition to the DJ Panthr LP, Silk is handling the release duties for ‘Phytopia’, a set of nine earthy, eco-tinged IDM tracks whose rhythms flow like a crystal clear mountain river.
“Light Energy” glides along on hypnotic synths, crisp percussive snaps that shine like glow sticks, and a loose energy that’s perfectly tuned to the changing seasons. Spring has sprung for most of us in the Northern Hemisphere, and Akasha System has crafted a killer companion to the longer, warmer days ahead.
