Premiere: Bambi OFS – IION

Subsist Records and B.F.E Records join forces to release a limited edition EP from Bambi OFS. Entitled ‘YAKKA’, the 12-inch comprises four tracks that forge a “glittering ethnofictional world” through trance-inducing percussion in combination with brutalist electronics.

The visually arresting sleeve features photography from ethnomusicologist Judith Becker, taken during a Bebuten ceremony in Bali, that offers something of a hint as to what lies waiting in the grooves.

On ‘IION’, listeners are confronted with an onslaught of angular metallic percussion, delivered in relentless, rolling succession across the first half of the piece. Underneath, boiling modular bleeps add to the general chaos — at the halfway point, however, the track undergoes a radical change, suddenly introducing clarity and balance to the atavistic percussive piece as it reaches its conclusion.

‘YAKKA’ is scheduled for release 1 October via B.F.E Records and Subsist Records. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
