Since 2017, Joseph Magee has been releasing music under the pseudonym Cofaxx. Leftfield house, ambient and low tempo excursions have made up the majority of the NYC producer’s catalogue so far, with his tracks appearing on labels such as Exotic Robotics, Nous and JASS.
‘Any Number of Filters’ arrives via 256 Recordings, a new label that Magee established in 2020 with the aim of providing a platform for his own music as well as that of local peers. While it’s still in its early stages, distribution and physical releases pending, hopefully the tracks on ‘Any Number of Filters’ serve as some indication of the quality that’s still to come.
Following the spacey and unhurried ‘Shell Collector’, which landed on Constellation Tatsu, ‘Any Number of Filters’ harks back to the rhythmic sensibilities of earlier Cofaxx material. The release’s title track is imbibed with feel-good coastal breeziness and slathered in dubbed-out delays.
