Premiere: Deadbeat & Om Unit – Bloom

Midnight Shift have always casted a broad curatorial net. This year, they’ve released complex polyrhythms by Nico, corrosive electro by Umwelt and an EP by seemingly unlikely collaborators Prequel Tapes and dBridge.

Their next outing is another collaborative release that sees Berlin-based Deadbeat joining forces with UK favourite Om Unit. Traversing styles and tempos, their new EP is a masterclass in dubbed-out electronics and spacious compositions.

While all of the tracks on ‘Root, Stalk, Leaf and Bloom’ have dub aesthetics at their core, the record appears to be split along genre lines. On the A-side, ‘Root’ and ‘Stalk’ are heady dub techno. The tempo begins to creep up on the flip side with the stripped-back drum and bass of ‘Leaf’ and ‘Bloom’, a sticky digital stepper.

‘Root, Stalk, Leaf and Bloom’ is scheduled for release 19 November via Midnight Shift. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
