Like his name suggests, DJ Unrefined doesn’t indulge in some genteel, extra-fine brand of house but rather well in grainy-textured lo-fi pumpers and heavy-breathing analogue jams. After a convincing first try on Italian label Raw Culture that finally saw the light a few days ago, the French producer is back on the emerging LDEP Records with a sexy four-track dish available exclusively in digital form, the very aptly-named ‘I Like That Crispy Sound‘.
Taken from this sooty compound of asphalt-coated ambiences, clinky-clanky shuffles and purring engines, ‘U Know Wut I Mean‘ melds together the impact of old-school hip hop productions with a sticky Detroit feel that never acts like some unwieldy remnant of times gone as it is so often the case in a sound category that doesn’t shine by its non-normative stance. Instantly catchy yet stamina-testing, it sure won’t take long to Unrefined’s impeccable groove know-how to ease you into its clammy, night-loving realms.
