Premiere: Hedchef – Could We Not Have Asked For A Smaller Void?

Berlin-based Ecke Records prepare to issue ‘On How Not To Become The Monsters We Despise’ from UK-born now Melbourne-based producer Hedchef.

Following up two releases on Extra Spicy and Scuffed Recordings in 2023, Hedchef breaks through the high-reaching gates of inferno with a medley of tracks on Ecke spanning bass-heavy electro, experimental techno and mutant breakbeat. Hedchef bolsters the release with two collaborations with Desinformant and Doctor Jeep, plus remixes from Squallfront and Hermeth.

Our pick is opening track ‘Could We Not Have Asked For A Smaller Void?‘. As the night begins, it feels like a deviant Gqom anthem blasting through a sultry warehouse in the middle of a semi-deserted grassland. With a blend of broken beat arrangements combined with syncopated chords and followed by mind-numbing vocals and dystopian arpeggios, Hedchef wraps up a peak-time cut that will please high-spirited villains only.

‘On How Not To Become The Monsters We Despise’ EP is scheduled for release 13 June via Ecke Records. Order a copy from Bandcamp
