Within just a few years of activity UK-born, Berlin-based James Booth asserted himself as a hearty beatsmith and refined tune-maker, packing up a couple of smooth floor heaters for Los Angeles’ 100% Silk and Budapest’s Farbwechsel, whilst contributing a handful of blue-chip cuts to labels like Nous and Jens Kuhn’s Out To Lunch.
This time Booth steps up on Camberwell’s finest Church with a flexile 4-track melter that falls right in time for the Indian summer. Deploying persuasive club-dedicated effects through velvety folds and sylphic melodies, ‘Silver Blaze‘ hits the pleasure spot on repeat, adroitly melding Asian folk tropes and acidic lines, lush exotica and sleek grooves.
Our pick – the caressing, soft-tempered title-track is a perfect concoction of glossy synth-scaping, swift bass moves and finespun arrangements. The result is as enticing at first listen as it keeps drawing deep with every further loop – nostalgic yet carried forward by a breezy swing. Insta-love.
Silver Blaze is released via Church on August 26th, pre-order a vinyl copy from Kudos.
