Having initially shaped the idea of Kontra Musik around a series of club nights, Ulf Eriksson gave life to the label exactly ten years ago. Not endorsing one specific genre, the releases of the Malmö-based imprint range from techno oriented releases like those of Luke Hess and TM404 onto Jonsson/Alter and Jason Fine’s micro and deep house, standing out for their musical variety.
After having celebrated its first decade with a VA compilation soberly-titled ‘X‘ – including remixes by Jus Ed, Shed or Silent Servant – the imprint has recently announced a new batch of remixes. Switching from the usual b&w sleeves to a vibrant palette of colours, the upcoming ‘X Color‘ EP features Sebastian Mullaert, Porn Sword Tobacco, Echospace, Dorisburg, Sa Pa and Max Loderbauer, all invited to share their own interpretations of classic tracks from the Kontra catalogue.
The premiered track finds Porn Sword Tobacco’s reshuffling Jason Fine’s ‘Workin’ it Out‘. The Swedish producer strips the original track of its fat deep-house basslines and late-night howling synths to immerse it in a waterfall of dogged drums, congas and other exotic sounds, speeding up the rhythm as it eventually moves close up to an Amazonian rain forest kind of vibe.
