Brooklyn-based producer Michael Claus produces sounds at the intersection of tech house, dub techno, and glitchy rave. Previous tapes on 100% Silk mined moodier, lush dub aesthetics while recent releases on his Silva Electronics imprint extract heavy hitting club sounds from his extensive sonic arsenal. His latest release, ‘Static Drift’, arrives via San Francisco’s Club Moniker, and it was written and recorded over the last three years, as Claus relocated from the Bay Area to New York.
On deck is “Surveillance Species”, an exhilarating slice of thumping techno with clattering percussion and whirling keys that resonate and splay out as if submerged underwater. The jittery, frenetic energy of the track is inescapably captivating and propulsive while briefly dissipating into the ether around the midpoint. Nestled within ‘Static Drift’, “Surveillance Species” offers a direct, focused techno track ready to transfix listeners. Across his discography, Michael Claus demonstrates an adept skill at both home listening grooves and heavy party sonics, and with ‘Static Drift’ he opts for the latter with spectacular results.
Static Drift is scheduled for release 6 February via Club Moniker. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
