Premiere: OTHR – Haste

With the doors to clubs across Georgia remaining closed since the beginning of the global pandemic, KHIDI looks inwards to regular DJ & producer OTHR for ‘Deltoid‘, the third release on the club’s label.

Whereas most of the clubbing world managed to enjoy at least a few months of unlimited or more relaxed measures over the summer, stricter government guidelines in the Georgian capital has pressed matters for the clubs in Tbilisi towards uncertainty. OTHR’s EP seems to channel some of the frustration and anger felt by the clubs’ denizens about their sector of culture, with rough and cathartic frequencies being the backbone of the record.

Our selection, ‘Haste‘, sees OTHR blending heavy metal-style vocals, drawn from his past musical projects, with churning EBM rhythms. While the title might indicate a faster BPM, the track actually cruises at a relatively slow pace, but frantic composition techniques combine within the track to build internal momentum. With dramatic sweeps and spikes in the percussion, OTHR details a violently upheaving landscape and a vision of sweat-laden dancefloors informed by his residency at the club.

‘Deltoid’ is scheduled for release 6 December via KHIDI. Order a copy from Bandcamp
