Brought to prominence by labels like Morelli’s torch-bearing L.I.E.S. and Stephen Bishop’s Opal Tapes, the tape-saturated grit of the “lo-fi” aesthetic has gained massive impact on the underground tech and house realm in recent times and the surf’s not about to stop unfurling.
New imprint to be stamped with the “grainy-grooves” quality label, French outlet Raw Sounds District will release a debut VA EP courtesy of an international cast of emerging producers on September 9th. Label head Slo Cee contributes a track as well as fellow Parisian Sofia, Switzerland’s Ockham, Los Angeles-based Social Service and Leeds up-and-comer PeteMartell.
Our premiere, the latter’s track ‘Digital Dave‘ hammers out a syncopated drive, lacing up intricate drum patterns and fuzzy mantles of polychrome pads as a lush late afternoon boat-party vibe wafts across the grooves. Summer’s not over and this one shall keep the sunbeams alive, from the darkest basement to the most supernal rooftop vista.
RSD001 is released via Raw Sounds District on September 9th, pre-order a vinyl copy from Juno.
