Premiere: Steve Murphy – Next Saturday (Club Mix)

Since his debuts half a decade ago, Steve Murphy has rapidly established as one of Italy’s most reliable tune makers in the realm of classic, Chicago-indebted house music, steadily charting his course through flocks of no-nonsense disco-friendly heaters, carved with poise and dexterity in equal measure.

A regular of German label Chiwax, Asquith’s Lobster Theremin and UTTU’s offshoot Hot Haus, the Venice producer’s now set to return via Bristol’s trustworthy outlet Shall Not Fade. His new EP ‘Watching Birds‘ melds a lush palette of colours and scents, from the overly sensual jacking rhythm of the title-track to the off-kilter buildup of ‘Big Babool‘ onto the tropical drum carnival of ‘Impeding Accident‘.

Our pick, the opening track ‘Next Saturday‘ flexes a neat filtered-house loop a la Pépé Bradock, smoothly unfurling its feverish percussion line over a rolling-and-churning groove. As if the track’s mild post-summer vibe wasn’t already voluptuous enough in itself, sliced-and-diced vox shards breathe in a further enticing disco feel to it, calling all dancers to join this lively communion in the pleasure dome.

Watching Birds EP is released via Shall Not Fade on 9th January 2017, pre-order a vinyl copy from Bandcamp.
