100% Silk is celebrating its 15th anniversary with the upcoming compilation Late Shift Silk. Featuring a slate of new and familiar names, the California label commemorates a decade and a half of sounds that range from chill room dub, pool party house, and rooftop techno.
With humble beginnings as a sibling imprint of Not Not Fun, the label has established itself as a purveyor of a specific blend of dance music that emphasises mid-tempo rhythmic house optimal for both the D.I.Y. clubs and home listening sessions. From coastal lo-fi house to off-grid European techno, Silk curates an unmistakable sound that’s adapted through the years while maintaining a first-rate discography.
Last month, we premiered Yamaan’s opening track, “Night Flight”. The tune expertly navigates late night road trips down empty urban highways. For today’s premiere, we have sonic shapeshifter Tile Plazas and their contribution “Healing Pond”. A regular fixture on Los Angeles imprint Jungle Gym Records, and the curator of Field Guide Index, Tile Plazas (aka Tyler Losinski) craft bedroom electronica incorporating acid, drum and bass, and dub techno.
“Healing Pond” is an oasis lying just beyond the horizon. With dreamy keys and percussion percolating at a gentle simmer, Tile Plazas deliver an intoxicating gem that puts the listener in a mood of peak summer heat waves, where scorching concrete sidewalks mingle with gently swaying palm trees. “Healing Pond” is a perfect encapsulation of 100% Silk’s current and future trajectory, and we are happy to be along for the ride into the next era.
‘Late Shift Silk’ is scheduled for release 5th December via 100% Silk. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
