First non-electronic release to land on Modern Obscure Music since the label’s debut five years ago, ‘Matèria Corrupta‘ is the work of Catalan pop-rock outfit Univers. Comprised of two unreleased cuts that didn’t make it on their latest LP for Barcelona imprint Famèlic, the record is completed by a triplet of remixes from Crème Org. mainstay Lake Haze, label boss Pedro Vian and the mysterious MT Formula, keeping it true to the structure’s crucially floor-functional DNA.
Lifted from this solid package of revamps, our premiere – Lake Haze ‘Club’ edit of ‘L’Home I L’Espasa‘ – holds on to the riff-laden, new-wavey hypnotism of the original, emphasizing on the drums and percs to match a further dynamic pulse, whilst managing to preserve the song’s emotive kernel intact. All synths flaring and guitars blazing, Lake Haze version promises to make quite the impression amongst Cure nostalgics, synth-pop heads and basically all lovers of the late ’70s-80s sound. Top-shelf material from a label that’s yet to disappoint.
Matèria Corrupta is released via Modern Obscure Music on 8th March, pre-order a copy from the label’s website.
