Inexorably languid, Vancouver based imprint Pacific Rhythm return with a sun-shaken release featuring the likes of Khotin, Active Surplus and Wolfey, the fourth of their Rhythms of the Pacific compilation series from the online record store-turned-label.
Blushing with a ‘Canadian Riviera’ warmth that extends it’s hand to us across a bitterly cold January, the four tracks are as symbolic of Canada’s burgeoning underground dance scene as ever. United but distinct in their own right, the effortless glow of Pacific Rhythm is captured with each track; the hazy, affair of ‘Ray Trace’ twinkles in and out of existence in its rumbling house style. Vancouver gem Khotin re-instates his melodic prowess following his dreamy ambient full-lengths to a unique piano-house jam ‘Piano Theme’, fittingly joyful.
Next is producer Wolfey’s debut ‘H.U.W.’, a languid and unstoppable groove containing all the elements you’d wish for in a disco house track from Pacific Rhythm, horns blaring through a perfectly blended melody. Toronto based duo Active Surplus contribute a sample heavy dream tune which points to the edges of rave which refuses to end. Pacific Rhythm once again showcase their appetite for effortlessly meandering house that define the underground Canadian Riviera.
