If it’s true that each and every drop from west coast revellers 100% Silk sparkles with its share of feelgood vibes, tape-delayed glam and polychromatic verve, the label’s first cuvée of 2019 bears a particularly significant emotional heft.
In addition to a spanking fresh 12″ outing from Portland’s Body San, the Californian imprint will release the first posthumous record of late San Fran-based enticer Cherushii, one of the 36 souls to have perished in the 2016 Oakland warehouse fire, which also claimed the life of another 100% Silk mainstay, Johnny Igaz aka Nackt.
The record is a seven-track collab featuring Estonian-born, LA-relocated vocalist Maria Minerva, with whom she got to tour the US back in the fall of 2013.
“In subsequent years the pair shared bills, traded tracks, and remained close – even playing live together a few times – yet the dream of a proper collaboration always loomed. The tragic Oakland fire of December 2016 cut short such plans but not before they’d written, recorded, and mixed the better part of six songs.
With the devoted assistance of David Last, Adam Gunther, and Brian Foote these recordings were posthumously polished and finalized and it’s our heart-aching honor to share them with the world.”
As a foretaste to this gourmet menu – replete with iridescent synthpop harmonics, languid vocals on a lazy summer tip and beaming rooftop-house motifs, we’re chuffed to bring you the exclusive stream of ‘This Must Be The Place‘ – a blissed-out trip across neon-lit canopies, concrete vines and an endless horizon of glassy skylines, where proportions and gravity have lost all practical significance.
Lifted from Body San’s forthcoming ‘Midnight‘ tape release, our second premiere ‘Sundress Beverage‘ oozes a fragrant mix of addictive machine funk, laid-back Tesla jazz and hypnotic waves of post-Italo synthy textures to keep the groove going. Smooth as velvet on a baby’s freshly talced butt, yet laser cut for slack but possibly dynamic after-party reboots, this one’s a well-groomed springtime doozy.
