Released in July, ‘Basquiat’ EP on Left, Right & Centre followed in the wake of DR MYSTERY’s debut album in May, presenting three cuts that deftly shifted between tempo and mood – cementing the masked producer as one of the most promising electronic producers to emerge out of Manchester.
‘Modern Love’ – perhaps a reference to the label of the same name – doesn’t feel out of step with the kind of releases we’ve come to expect from Andy Stott, dreamy and romantic but with an industrial edge.
Filmed in Manchester by Robin Hergé and directed & edited by DR MYSTERY, the video for ‘Modern Love‘ transports viewers into a late night journey, pacing through the streets of Salford, interspersed with graceful dance moves performed by DR MYSTERY and the words – Perseverance – Connection – Love – Intimacy – Obsession – highlighted in red.
It’s a suitably murky music video that gives further depth and granular atmosphere to the track. Eagle eyed viewers might also notice the street sign for Dickinson Street, a nod towards The White Hotel, a nightclub in Manchester that DR MYSTERY has attended and performed at in recent years.
‘Basquiat’ is out now via Left, Right & Centre. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
