After the rollercoaster of emotions that finished 2016 – “the can you, can’t you” uploading of previously copyrighted material as part of a DJ mix to Soundcloud – we all took a week off, removed our Fitbits and proceeded to eat and drink ourselves into a comfortable narcosis. This week sees shadowy Dutch collective ESHU at the reigns. Having closed off 2016 in quite some style with the Fraktur EP on their self-titled record label, this mix dials back to April 2012 with a surprising swerve in style. Eshewing (ha) the analogue dub infused techno that you expect from the crew, their mix heads straight down into trip-hop, laid back hip-hop grooves, classic dub, soul and funk. Everything you could want to ease you in after sessions of excess over the past few weeks.
