Following news of Intonal’s switch of seasons, now taking place 16 – 20 June, today we can reveal the jaw dropping lineup of musicians that are poised to blow the roof off the sixth edition of Malmö’s always on point music and arts festival.
Featuring a smorgasbord of experimental and international talent, half of the performances on offer at Intonal Festival are unique commissions and world premieres. One of those works is Fever Dreams by Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg – an immersive three channel video installation featuring their iconic stop motion animations and a live surround sound performance by Berg.
Ellen Arkbro & Microtub join forces to present the world premiere of her new work composed specifically for Microtub, the world’s only microtonal tuba trio. IA MIX alumni Dungeon Acid collaborates with House of North to present Northern Acid, exploring the concept of flow that utilises quadraphonic surround sound and precision lasers.
Sebastian Mullaert’s Circle Of Live land in Malmö to present an overnight electronic music concept honouring the values of spontaneity and improvisation with an ever-evolving line-up of fearless contemporaries, this time with Johanna Knutsson and Dorisburg.
The Church of St John’s in Malmö will host an intimate organ concert from Anna von Hausswolff, plus performances from Johanna Knutsson, Josefine Opsahl and a special midnight concert from Kenyan sound artist and ambient producer KMRU.
A series of screenings will also take place from Aki Onda, Sebastian Mullaert & Subchamber Ensemble, plus Steve Goodman (aka Kode9) presenting his 27 minute video essay Audio Virology, a fascinating exploration of viruses rendered audible and the idea of virality in modernity.
Other festival highlights include the world premiere of Varg2™ Drifting dew falls rain, drawn from his recent residency at Inkonst. Berlin-based producer Minor Science presents ‘Absent Friends‘, a live ambient/improvised collage set, based on his acclaimed mixtape series of the same name.
