Malmö’s leading experimental musical gathering have revealed the final acts to take centre stage at the fourth edition of Intonal Festival taking place next month (25-30 April) in Sweden. Additions include Fennesz, Rabih Beaini aka Morphosis, Deena Abdelwahed and Amsterdam’s Red Light Radio, plus a host of boundary-flexing artists, performers and composers that includes Arpanet, Charlemagne Palestine, Courtesy, Pan Daijing, Avalon Emerson and Elysia Crampton.

Alongside the aforementioned acts, several installations, seminars and special performances have been detailed, including artist talks with Don’t DJ aka Florian Meyer, Cortini and Pan Daijing. Intonal is also taking over a nearby abandoned water tower for a meeting between local and international artists that takes advantage of the building’s acoustics.

Charlemagne Palestine and Ellen Arkbro will also play the grand organ at Sankt Johannes Church. Finally, Mokira will perform a six-hour-long “sleeping concert”, live-tweaking specially composed material with the aid of random generators, bringing the audience to a “collective dreamlike state”.

While it may not be a party capital, Malmö seems a fittingly left-field location for a festival that prides itself on the diversity and the experimentalism of it’s performers. The organisers eschew buzz-worthy names in favour of subversive, avant-garde artists that they feel deserve a space to be heard. They’re also committed to ensuring a 50/50 gender split on all line-ups, in an effort to give an equal voice to female artists and performers.

Intonal takes place between April 25-30 at Inkonst in Malmö – Final Tier Tickets are on sale now for just £61 / 700 Krona.
