Premiere: Chihei Hatakeyama & Dirk Serries – Sprakk

Following their exceptional debut long player ‘The Storm Of Silence‘ – ‘Black Frost‘ marks the second album collaboration from Japanese ambient maestro Chihei Hatakeyama and Belgian-based artist Dirk Serries – delivering four long-form and immersive ambient pieces for Glacial Movements.

Based amongst the outskirts of Tokyo, Chihei Hatakeyama has spent many years delving the depths of what ambient music can achieve, issuing records through Kranky and Home Normal. Dirk Serries’ collaboration is just one of a long list of collaborative albums, which Serries has worked on, including Justin K. Broadwick and Cult of Luna, amongst others.

To release this album via Glacial Movements seems the most natural occurrence; each track moves slowly, with a chill like autumn winds blowing over. Opener, ‘Sprakk‘ shifts like a cloud wandering across a clear sky, gradually undulating and reshaping itself throughout the nearly 9 minute runtime. Split between perfect quiet time music and involving ambient structures, Hatakeyama and Serries have forged an exquisite album of top shelf ambient, perfect for the slide into Winter.

‘Black Frost’ is scheduled for release 30 October via Glacial Movements. Order a copy from Bandcamp
