Manchester-based producer GuestWorlds returns with Rare Earth, a deeply immersive second release following his self-released 2023 debut EP. Self-described as a “dubbed-out ambient fantasia”, the album weaves together irregular time signatures, field recordings and found sounds through lush, carefully layered electronic environments.
Our pick is Canopy Interceptions, a vaporous ambient piece that opens the album in a wash of pink and silver etched cloudscapes. Hissing textures and breathy, ethereal vocal pads drift weightlessly across one another, and then round the halfway mark, subtle mid and bass tones begin to gather underneath, lending a little physical weight in the lush warmth at near-ground level.
The track then gradually dissolves and falls to earth in a rain of static wash. It’s organic and fluid, an appropriately elemental opening to an album that’s concerned with that ever-porous boundary between landscape and sound.
‘Rare Earth’ is scheduled for release on 2nd October via Creaked Records.
