Continuing their slow and steady release schedule, Bienvenue Recordings are back with their third record in as many years. The Montreal label’s approach to quality control seems to be paying off though, the imprint being responsible for some of the finest Canadian exports in recent years.
Formed in the winter of 2020, Secret Witness is a collaborative project that sees label alumni Gabriel Rei and Gene Tellem joining forces with singer/songwriter Laroie and drummer Pascal Deaudelin. The group’s first project is a seductive extended EP that blends deep house, pop and soul.
Our pick from ‘Volume I’ is ‘Refuge’. Surrounded by swirling pads and reverb-soaked tones, Deaudelin’s drums are something that really shine through on this track. ‘Refuge’ is perhaps best suited to the end of the night or alternatively the hazy after-hours that follow.
