Following the ‘Dots’ release from Naima Faraò in March 2024, Milan-based imprint Beat Machine returns with the two-track ‘Swinging Flavors #12’ EP – courtesy of Tokyo-based maverick T5UMUT5UMU.
After a previous release on Kampala-based label Hakuna Kulala focused on avant-garde experiments in East Africa and beyond, ‘Swinging Flavors #12’ rejuvenates off-tracked mortals with a batch of sloppy stompers – including a remix from London-based hotshot Mani Festo. Swinging Flavors’ seventh installment delves into quirky realms of rumbling foreshocks, ferocious breaks, crepuscular grime and mind-warping dubstep.
‘Bolt‘ is our pick for the premiere – it starts with a turbulent splurge of percussions, then moves to roller coasters of UK bass, neo-Caribbean samples intertwined with grime interludes to ballistic swirls of subterranean flutes, making it a prime time weaponry to file with DJ Plead and Toma Kami.
