Mexican label Short Attention Records digitally release Vantane’s ‘Pieces Of Unknown Memories‘, a five-track EP that crosses the lines of downtempo IDM, ambient and breakbeat.
Vantane, a producer from Luxembourg who is a part of the Berlin-based Nerang Recordings crew (alongside Interplanetary Criminal, Low Tape and others), has to date released just a couple of EPs, via Nerang and Dublin label Doubleu, but each shows a gradual growth, with his latest for Short Attention perhaps his strongest yet.
From this EP, our pick for favourite is ‘Genuine Love‘, an emotive track that nevertheless shows real promise for moving dancefloors with its tough, filled-out breaks and punchy bass. Vantane elevates the track beyond mere fodder via 90’s IDM sonic scrambles, stuttering melody and sweeps of ambient synths, landing it somewhere near some Ilian Tape releases.
