Premiere: WD-40 TRAX – Divadlo & Tanec

Sydney-born, Prague-based Beef Records was originally founded in 2006. Since then, the imprint, run by Michal Ruzicka, has dabbled in house, electro, dub, broken beats and more. They’ve also thrown their own events under the name Komiks, often incorporating experimental lighting and site-specific art installations.

Regular appearances on the label have come courtesy of Shades Of Gray, the duo that Ruzicka formed in 2005 along alongside Nick West. In more recent years, the producer has also been working under the alias DJ Schwa. He now joins forces with new studio collaborator Jan Pos for a project and sub-label called WD-40 TRAX.

Much of this eponymous release takes cues from turn of the millennium tribal techno, some of the best tracks here being clear throwbacks to that sound. Setting the scene for the EP,  the bleepy opening sketch ‘Divadlo & Tanec’ takes a slightly different approach.

‘WD-40 TRAX’ is scheduled for release 26 November via Beef Records. Order a copy from Phonica.
