Operating out of Kazan, Russia YancityGurl made his first appearance on Opal Tapes a few months ago, curating the excellent ‘U S S R (Ur Social Status Resistance)‘ compilation which you can still stream in full through our channels, before eventually dropping his debut solo album ‘Shadow Medium‘ via Stephen Bishop’s label in September.
Today Kirill is back in business with a self-released assemblage of unpublished cuts from his rather imposing archives, compiled under the cryptic title of ‘People With Spectral Flavour‘. A fine title for this solid collection of acid pumpers and electro-magnetic grooves so much it oozes a spooky, halloween-friendly waft.
Our pick, the album’s closing track ‘In Your Strange Worlds‘ speeds up the highway in a rage-fuelled race of cursed ghost ships and zombie crews. Oscillating from a hi-NRG Detroit electro kind of vibe to haunting string flights in a dash, it reveals as efficient as a full on emotional burner as it is of a proper propulsive floor weapon.
