One year on from their widely lauded ‘Laren‘ EP, deep techno amigos Bas Dobbelaer and Vand team up again for ‘ZL2‘, the pair’s second EP on Utrecht’s SoHaSo label.
The release, featuring a greyscale version of the artwork seen on ‘Laren‘, sees the two musicians scope out fresh territory in their hypnotic techno palette, forging a more introspective journey than their previous outing together on the label. Using the Waldorf Blofeld’s analogue sound as a backbone across the four productions on offer, ‘ZL2‘ is rife with warm mystic waves topped by glimmering white crests of nimble percussion.
‘Reflect‘ closes the A-side, calming frequencies finding balance with smooth syncopation and subdued drumwork. Steady craft sees the track grow from slow beginnings to a more complex conclusion, without tipping over into excess. Vand and Dobbelaer hold their cards to their chest, letting ‘Reflect‘ work quiet, organic magic. The ravers will find more energetic moments elsewhere; let this one carry your thoughts away to calmer shores.
