Michel Baumann takes a breather from his Soulphiction production alias and resurrects his Jackmate moniker for a vinyl only release on 18437, delivering three tracks of fresh tech rollers stuffed with the funk and sway of early house.
Across the EP there’s none funkier than ‘Modulation Nightdrive‘, which carries the essence of the title in the character of the music like a scene from a film. Picture: 1980’s; low rider with sport decals; yellow leather jackets and black sunglasses glinting under the rolling overhead street lamps.
The track projects this image into your mind with lo-tech beeps, lurching sweeps of synth, and foot-dragging hi-hats, but it’d be nothing without the punch of the low end keeping the cruise control engaged. Let’s take a ride.
