New label on the block – Grid Records prepare to release ‘All Inclusive‘, a dubbed-out batch of leftfield electronics comprising the debut EP from label affiliate Kevin Murf.
Murf, who featured on ‘Improvisations‘, the label’s inaugural V/A compilation back in May, demonstrated a distinct maturity and class with the music on ‘All Inclusive‘: although it is broadly loop-based work, Murf crams in inventive flourishes that keep interest, from creatively crushing percussion into new shapes to dub-style FX play.
Throughout the five cuts on offer Murf builds a bridge between the weirder realms of electronic music and compulsively danceable rhythms, making this a perfect EP for those looking for unhinged music for curious DJs.
On ‘Unexpected Jazz Crush (Solastalgia)‘ Murf takes that predilection for making weirder structures and applies it to his own music, crafting a spacious and almost haunting Version out of the first track on the EP. The vocal sample of a fierce Cutty Ranks heard on the dubstep-leaning original gets chopped into fine strips, which flare out into the delay-heavy haze. Proper experimental mindset, meeting with a sharp technique and clear vision.
‘Inclusive’ is scheduled for release 5 November via Grid Records. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
