“As some music festivals stagnates, Unsound innovates“, this was the sentiment captured after we attended last year’s edition of Unsound Festival in Krakow and innovation will definitely be at the core of this edition once again. From 16 – 23d October 2016, the festival will focus on the notion of ‘dislocation‘ and aims to explore the tension between the concepts of ‘center’ and ‘periphery’ that often fuel cultural development.
The Dislocation project will be articulated around a series of events taking place all around the globe, starting from big cities as New York, London, Toronto and Adelaide to then focus on the local scene in remote places of Central Asia, Caucasus and the former URSS.
If the line-up will remain a secret till the very last minute, artists announced for the dislocation project will undoubtedly have you drooling. Amongst those one-off, boundary-pushing collaborations: electronic music legend Moritz von Oswald will be joined by Kyrgyzstan band Ordo Sakhna, Swedish producer Samo will team up with a traditional band from Tajikistan and Matmos combine with Polish string quartet Sinfonietta Cracovia.
Javanese hardcore duo Senyawa will be representing Indonesia with their custom made battery of neo-primitive instruments, presenting a brand new collaboration with Rabih Beaini that bridges Lebanese and Indonesian cultures.
Unique performances will see Optimo Music godfather JD Twitch perform a live set dedicated to late hyperactive genius Muslimgauze, known for questioning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict via unmatched dubby industrial scapes ; Forest Swords will be presenting new material taken off their upcoming album whilst TTT and Hyperdub affiliate Dean Blunt steps up with his new Babyfather project, delivering a proper mix of mangled loops, druggy noise and groovy basslines.
Last but not least, Giegling aficionados will be happy to see Edward and Konstantin feature in this very diverse line-up and harsh techno lovers will have the opportunity to witness the premiere of Ancient Methods newborn live set alongside Cindytalk titled ‘In The Mouth Of The Wolf‘. If you are not fearful of death-related contents and extreme experiences, Canadian composer Kara-Lis Coverdale will join forces with MFO for a very special show in a digitally-rendered cemetery. Boo!
