Having made a name for himself on reputable imprints such as Royal Oak and Gost Zvuk, prolific Russian artist Nocow, real name Aleksei Nikitin, has landed a release on Radio Slave’s Rekids with quite some intent. Released last week, ‘Samaya Dolgaya Noch‘ has been garnering diverse and acclaimed support. Names such as Special Request, Midland, Prins Thomas, DVS1, and a whole host more, have found themselves enamoured with the release.
It mines dark and sweaty basement grooves. If you’re looking for a graspable parallel here, think Galcher Lustwerk with the darkness ramped to 11. Though switching into blissed out post-rave for short-but-sweet final cut ‘Aesthetic Mind‘. While obviously track-y in nature, Aleksei has a penchant for swapping elements in and out away from the leading beat, giving tracks a restless and continual energy.
In celebration of the release, we are pleased to present to you the video for the self-directed music video for the title track. Filmed in St. Petersburg, it moves from near black monochrome into colour, as the sun rises over familiar landmarks such as the Bronze Horseman and Peter & Paul Fortress. Next year sees Aleksei return to Rekids with an album to add to his already impressive catalogue. If this suite of cuts is anything to go by, we’re going to be in for a treat.
‘Samaya Dolgaya Noch’ is available now on Rekids, order a copy here.
