Premiere: HOMI – Välitila (VC-118A Remix)

Patterns of Perception take a trip North to Finland: HOMI debuts with three original cuts of transfixing techno, and a work of wonder from the many-aliased VC-118A completes the package for the Berlin party’s second label outing.

Scouted by the PoP gang during a party in Helsinki, HOMI’s music is more than your average ‘floor music. Looping beats and incrementally complex layers and melodies build the backbone of mesmerising constructs; techno, sure, and trance-inducing too, but neither run-of-the-mill “hypnotic” techno nor one of those hybrids of trance & techno. ‘Välitila’, the title track of the EP, balances a mood for insular people and full, ecstatic dancefloors.

Samuel Van Dijk, has, in each of his different guises (VC-118A / Multicast Dynamics / Mohlao) proved a stable and solid artist, rarely brilliant and with a unique take and clearly identifiable sound across techno, electro and ambient — showcased across records for Delsin, Astral Industries, Frustrated Funk and Hypnus. For HOMI, Van Dijk takes the downcast dancefloor title jam and mutes the urgency, twisting the original into a mid-tempo swingy trip-hop joint. The lurkier sounds of the producer’s Multicast Dynamics alias come peering out, adding a tenseness to the remix.

Välitila EP is scheduled for release 4 November via Patterns of Perception. Order a copy from Bandcamp.
