Best Albums of 2018

Having kept our opinion quiet over the past two years, we’ve compiled what we believe to be the best albums of 2018.

Hodge

Hodge steps up to our podcast series with an all-ambient mix recorded live at Elevator club in Shanghai. It’s a headlong experience that awaits, lulling you into a world of beatless serenity and vaporous captivation.

Bibio: Phantom Brickworks IV & V

A year on and Stephen Wilkinson aka Bibio picks up from where he left off, unearthing two unheard cuts from the Phantom Brickworks sessions, offered up in the form of a deluxe limited edition photo-book and extended player.

Music Video: Landon Speers – Wild Rose – “II”

Such magic is undoubtedly at work in today’s visual premiere. The footage set to ‘II’, a cut from Landon Speers’ exploratory ambient record ‘Wild Rose’, is not as much a music video as it is a kind of visual poem, its wordless meaning made audible in the achingly soft tones of Speers’ poignant composition.

Vril: Anima Mundi

This is straight up space music: aliens, black holes, astronauts, star ships. Contained are absolutely massive beats and bottomless synth pads. ‘Anima Mundi’ is acidic, burning away the rust to reveal the shiny underbelly of a rocket ship headed to a distant solar system. This is true stargazing music, made for asking the biggest questions of our existence.
