Impossible Forms: Beatrice Dillon

Speaking in-depth about her ‘Workaround’ LP on PAN, Beatrice Dillon radiates a fascination with the way that that music works and a reverence for the raw and inexplicable power of sound itself.

Best Albums of 2019

Over the past 12 months we have overindulged in a vast array of consistently on-point long players from artists both new and old. As with tradition we have compiled what we believe to be the best albums of 2019.

Pelada: Movimiento Para Cambio

Following two excellent EPs on Canadian imprint New, ‘Movimiento Para Cambio’ marks Pelada’s debut album – serving up a smorgasbord of rave synths, acid basslines and breakbeat steeped in political connotations.

Music Video: Objekt – Dazzle Anew

Following the release of Objekt’s second album ‘Cocoon Crush’ in November, which we ranked #4 in our Best Albums Of 2018, today TJ Hertz shares a music video for ‘Dazzle Anew’ directed by Joji Koyama.

Best Albums of 2018

Having kept our opinion quiet over the past two years, we’ve compiled what we believe to be the best albums of 2018.

Objekt: Cocoon Crush

‘Cocoon Crush’ pushes the boundaries of experimentation even further than his previous releases did, and that without ever falling in self-referentialism or redundancy. Speaking of what goes on across ‘Cocoon Crush’ may be quite a challenge at times for the reason that – as happens with the most futuristic forms of art – what’s on display here is new to the extent that a new lexicon would be required.

In Focus: Errorsmith dissects ‘Superlative Fatigue’

Following the release of his album on PAN, we met up with Errorsmith in Neukölln for a face-to-face interview and photo shoot, as we looked to find out more about the making of his stunning album Superlative Fatigue.

Errorsmith: Superlative Fatigue

Electronic pioneers Kraftwerk and Jeff Mills both made electronic music which was completely detached from the scenes around them. Their sounds strove towards the future, but were also firmly connected to ideals of popular music – of melody and dancing. With Superlative Fatigue, Errorsmith has joined this tradition, producing a record of hi-tech ravers which transcends its surroundings.

Yves Tumor: Serpent Music

Serpent Music, the new album by Mykki Banco associate Yves Tumor, may only feature lyrics on a few of its tracks, but it somehow manages to convey a painfully vivid narrative. A diverse collage of sound that lurches from meditative to viscerally evocative.

Best Releases: May 2016

Fett Burger and Luca Lozano teaming up again, Madteo back with the christening release of his eponymous label, edit-sensei Mori Ra killing it with another batch of top-class revamps, Lee Gamble stepping up on UIQ for the first time… May got our processors on overheat! Here’s our monthly compilation.

Lifted: 1

Lifted’s debut is the rare album, which feels purely next-level, like music beamed from an idealised future. And on its best moments, like Mint or the sparkling chill of closer Medicated Yoga, that future is very jazzy indeed.
