Best Music Videos of 2018

To mark our final end of year list, we have searched high and low for the very best music videos of 2018.

Music Video: Landon Speers – Wild Rose – “II”

Such magic is undoubtedly at work in today’s visual premiere. The footage set to ‘II’, a cut from Landon Speers’ exploratory ambient record ‘Wild Rose’, is not as much a music video as it is a kind of visual poem, its wordless meaning made audible in the achingly soft tones of Speers’ poignant composition.

Music Video: Arad – Inti

Best known as part of the production duo Lakker, earlier this year Dara Smith released a record on Bedouin Records under his new solo alias Arad. Ahead of his forthcoming mix, today we’re premiering this lysergic music video for ‘Inti’

Music Video: Teenage Arab – No Me No Mine

We are proud to present the music video for Teenage Arab’s debut release ‘No Me No Mine’ EP out on Not For Fun Records. The politically charged video, shot during a large-scale anti Putin protest in Moscow by director Danila Gulin, makes for a blunt depiction of police and military violence.

Music Video: Asa 808 – Love Trumps Fear

Asa 808 ‘Love Trumps Fear’ is part of a double headed single whose flip side ‘Woke’ is already seeing mileage from Avalon Emerson, Breach, Frits Wentink, George FitzGerald and Whitesquare – that acts as a pre-cursor for a forthcoming mini-LP. Already the entrée bodes well for the main course.

Music Video: Nathan Micay – First Casualty

We are proud to present the music video premiere for Nathan Micay’s ‘First Casualty’ on Whities. Directed by Masha Batsea & Alex McCullough, the video winds its way along an anonymous tree-lined road, overlaying the neutral landscape with incongruous shapes and colours.

Music Video: Tourist Kid – Bacterial

Directed by Will Galperin & Evan Stalker, the music video for ‘Bacterial’ features simulated macro-shots of cellular mitosis, a natural process that somehow renders organic and ordered forms out of disorienting complexity and chaos.

Music Video: Benedikt Frey – Looking Back

German producer Benedikt Frey lands back on Live At Robert Johnson this month with his first 12″ for the imprint. To mark the occasion we are premiering the animated minimalist music video for the record’s opening track “Looking Back”.

Music Video: mara – leaving me

After over three years of intense work and absolute dedication with Cultivated Sound, mara eventually steps up with her highly anticipated debut release on Ryan Wurst’s imprint, Always Human Tapes.

Music Video: Diamont Dancer – Circle

With less than a month to go until the release of Diamont Dancer’s new album, we caught up with the Spanish duo to discuss the making of ‘Shapes’. We’re also glad to premiere the music video for ‘Circle’, directed by live visual artist Sergi Palau.

Music Video: Chino – 404

Illustrating the track’s pulsating rhythms with a convulsive black and white composition of rotating geometric shapes, abstract figures and IT glitches, Dybala’s piece makes for a much compelling, hypnotic visual collage that fits Chino’s music like a glove. Warning: this video can potentially trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy.

Music Video: Sergie Rezza – Envole

Sergie Rezza’s ‘Envolve’ is an absorbingly beautiful piece of visual abstraction that can best be described as a view through a microscope after a hefty dose of psilocybin – the perfect accompaniment to a track that leans towards the psychotropic, careening through blissful pads, heavenly atmospherics and nuanced rhythms on a 10-minute musical trip that ends all too soon.
